St. Louis Rams ask Commissioner Goodell for just a few more days to prepare for next game

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Rams know they would have a chance to win their next game with just a little more time to practice. That’s why the team has sent an official request to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell asking for extra days in which to prepare for the opposition’s defensive patterns, running game, passing attack, special teams formations, blitz packages, and overall athletic superiority.

“If those few more days help us become faster on our pass defense, stronger against the pass rush, more accurate with passes, more efficient in the running game, and better with our coaching decisions, I really like our chances against the Bills,” head coach Scott Linehan said.

The Rams, 0-3 this season, hope to be granted three days but feel even an extra two days would go miles in helping them in their effort to contend with an NFL-caliber team in Buffalo, a team that boasts a perfect 3-0 record.

“The thing is, I gave them Monday off because it’s tough to get back out there and try to make yourself better after losing so badly,” said Linehan, who sent Goodell a picture of some of his injured players along with his request in hopes of evoking sympathy from the commissioner.

“Remember, we’re going to a new quarterback this week, and I just think the extra time could really help our [offensive] line grasp Buffalo’s defensive plan,” said Rams offensive line coach Steve Loney hours after Linehan named Trent Green the starting quarterback. Green replaces the struggling Marc Bulger. Bulger labored ineffectively in the team’s first three outings, an outcome Loney thinks is a result of the NFL’s stringent week-long time limit to prepare for games.

A call placed to the NFL Commissioner’s office was not immediately returned, and Rams personnel said they have not heard an answer on the request for extra prep time.

“Think about it. Wouldn’t it be kind of cool to have a game on a Wednesday?” added Linehan.
