HOUSTON – New Astros slugger Carlos Lee will begin a 7-year contract in 2007, making him the foundation of a recently struggling Astros offense.

Lee, however, isn’t interested in talking about living every boy’s dream or the chance to play for a contender. He tells reporters he is just happy to make 100 million dollars.

“I would like even more,” said Lee. “I mean, 100 million is nice, but I would like another 500 million or so. Ideally, I could keep collecting millions of dollars for the next 15 years.”

The Astros organization is pleased to shore up an already highly paid batting order with a really extravagant contract. “We’re happy to have another aging All-star power hitter willing to be paid extremely large sums of money,” said Houston GM Tim Purpura.

Lee added he would even consider developing nagging injuries that would keep him out of many games over the next 7 years, building on an important Astros foundation started by Jeff Bagwell in the 1990s.
