Scottsdale, Ariz.–An addict of the pre-installed computer game Minesweeper completely lost it this week while attempting to use the digits six through nine on his cellular phone. "That's not possible,” shouted a frazzled Matt Grover, 27. “There aren't even that many spaces around those numbers." The suburban Phoenix business analyst has not made an outgoing call since the discovery, claiming he has no clue as to which buttons are concealing dreaded mines. Friends say trying to reason with Grover is difficult when he comes across items contradicting Minesweeper gaming protocol. “I remember asking him to give me a call one evening,” remembers co-worker Jeff Stanson. “I guess that was when he realized the phone wasn’t Minesweeper compatible.” The cell phone joins a growing list of items Grover has jettisoned from everyday use. The Minesweeper enthusiast already refuses to use his television remote control, his calculator and all calendars.
