50 Cent claims he meant he would outsell folk singer Conway West
September 27, 2007 | Issue 4-42
NEW
YORK—According to 50 Cent, there has been a misunderstanding. In the weeks
prior to his album’s release date, rapper 50 Cent was widely regarded to
have claimed his new CD would outsell that of hip-hop counterpart Kanye
West. However,
two weeks after the release of his CD Curtis, whose sales fell well
short of Kanye West’s Graduation, 50 Cent claims he never said he
would outsell the rapper West. Instead, he said he was guaranteeing his CD
sales would surpass those of folk singer Conway West’s, who released A
Simpler Field on September 11, the shared release date of the two
rappers. “I got
no problem with my man Kanye,” said 50. “Far as Conway be concerned, he
got some things he best check before speaking at me again.” 50 Cent
said his falling out with Conway West stemmed from a song the folk singer
wrote about a lemonade stand, in which 50 claims contains a direct hit was
made on his credibility. The line in question reads, “You don’t need fifty
cents to enjoy an ice cold cup.” When
reached for comment, folk singer West claimed to be unaware of any feud
and explained the song’s meaning to be about “having a nice glass of
lemonade on a steamy Arkansas day.” 50 Cent,
however, does not buy West’s excuses and is proudly declaring victory
after beating the folk singer’s album sales by 843,456. The Arkansas
musician maintained he is uninterested in any sales competition but did
add that if 50 Cent intends to personally attack him, he should mind his
step, as folk genre sales see a rise just before Christmas. Kanye
West weighed in on the issue by saying both are great musicians, adding
that he originally hails from Chicago and knows Jay-Z.
